The 24th CodeIT Programming Competition award ceremony took place at the Interpred World Trade Centre on Monday. President Rumen Radev presented Boris Mihov with the first prize in the Senior category.
CodeIT was established by Musala Soft in 2000 as a national competition. Since 2007, the competition has been held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria. Since the 2013-2014 season, the competition has been international. Problems were introduced that were appropriate for children as young as 8th grade. More than 2,300 competitors from over 20 countries have participated in CodeIT so far, including China, Serbia, North Macedonia, Switzerland, Iran, India, and Sweden.
This year, the competition brought together 161 participants from five countries. For the first time, a father-and-son duo took part in the final round. The youngest participant in the competition was 12-year-old Aleksander Valchev. Plamen Tomov, 72, was the oldest entrant, Musala Soft said.
Hristo Hristov came in second in the main category, Blagojce Pavleski from the Republic of North Macedonia placed third, followed by Gabrovo student Yasen Penchev, Serbian Andrej Odri, Serkan Rashid from Shumen, eleventh-grader from Varna Dobromir Angelov, Kiril Minkov from Plovdiv, who participated in the competition 20 years ago, Serbian Viktor Lucic, ninth-grader from Shumen Yavor Vasilev, Gabrovo student Mihal Mihailov, and Serbian Dusko Obradovic.
Denislav Manov won first place in the Junior category, the organizers said.
The competition is held annually in six online rounds and a final in-person round in partnership with companies, NGOs, IT associations, and leading educational institutions in Bulgaria. The top 12 contestants qualify for the grand final. The honorary chair of the jury is Krasimir Manev, president of the International Olympiad in Informatics 2015-2017 and the first president of the European Junior Olympiad in Informatics.
