Caretaker Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Kondov held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Bulgaria Miguel Alonso Berrio, the press centre of the ministry said on Monday.
The conversation focused on constructive cooperation at bilateral level and partnership on key issues of the European agenda and within NATO. Current developments in Ukraine and the Middle East were also discussed. Kondov expressed gratitude for the consistent and strong support during the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU last year for Bulgaria's accession to Schengen. Spain's position on supporting Bulgaria on the main foreign policy priorities - joining the Eurozone, the OECD, as well as the abolition of land border controls within the Schengen area - was confirmed.
Kondov also thanked for the permission received from the Spanish state authorities and the opportunity for the Bulgarian citizens in the country to vote in the upcoming early parliamentary and European Parliament elections on 9 June 2024, specifying that 64 polling stations will be opened in 55 locations on the territory of Spain.
The two diplomats shared the desire to build on the active bilateral political dialogue at all levels, as well as economic cooperation, educational and cultural exchanges.
