Bulgarians in Moldova Sunday gathered at the Monument to Bulgarian national hero Hristo Botev in Chisinau to commemorate the poet and revolutionary and those fallen for Bulgaria's liberation.

Historian Ivan Duminica talked about Botev's contacts with Bessarabian Bulgarians.

Krasimir Andreev, the Bulgarian Embassy's Counsellor for Culture, Education and Media, thanked the Bulgarian community in Moldova for keeping alive the memory of Botev's patriotic deed, said the Academic Society of Bulgarian Studies in Moldova.

Gheorghi Barbarov, President of the Bulgarian Municipality in Moldova, made a speech commemorating Botev's 148th death anniversary. Galya Duhneva, a teacher posted by the Bulgarian Education Ministry to the Vasil Levski Theoretical Lyceum, also addressed those gathered.

The town of Tvardita and the village of Valea Perjei, which have monuments to Botev, also held commemorative events.
