site.btaFood Price Index Down by 1.21% in Last Week of May
The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria went down by 1.21% to 2.114 points in the outgoing week, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said. Last week, the index stood at 2.140 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
The price of imported cucumbers decreased by 8.8% to BGN 1.98 per kilogram. Greenhouse cucumbers dropped by 10.9% to BGN 2.53/kg. Greenhouse tomatoes depreciated by 9% to BGN 2.74/kg. The price of potatoes fell by 2.7% to BGN 1.43/kg.
The price of carrots rose by 7.6% to BGN 1.42/kg, while imported onions depreciated by 13.9% to BGN 1.49/kg. The price of cabbage fell by 7.7% to BGN 0.84/kg.
Imported apples went down by 2.9% to BGN 1.70/kg, while lemons appreciated by 3.3% to BGN 2.47/kg. Bananas dropped by 0.4% to BGN 2.71/kg, while imported strawberries rose by 0.7% to BGN 4.15/kg. The price of oranges increased by 0.6% to BGN 1.82/kg.
The average wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went up by 0.4% to BGN 10.96/kg, and the price of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type by 1.2% to BGN 17.36/kg.
The price of yoghurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) decreased by 0.9% to BGN 1.16 for a cup of 400 grammes. Fresh milk (with a fat content of 3%) dropped by 2.6% to BGN 2.26 per litre.
Chicken appreciated by 3% to BGN 6.83/kg, while the average wholesale price of eggs (size M) went down by 6.5% to BGN 0.29 per piece.
The price of rice increased by 0.3% to BGN 3.25/kg, and lentils went up by 2.2% to BGN 4.27/kg. The price of dry common beans decreased by 2.6% to BGN 4,05/kg.
Sugar dropped by 1.5% to BGN 1.94/kg. Sunflower oil was selling at BGN 2.74 per litre. The price of flour (type 500) rose by 0.8% to BGN 1.31/kg, while butter from cow’s milk depreciated by 0.4% to BGN 2.60 for a pack of 125 grammes.
