At a meeting here on Wednesday, President Rumen Radev, ministers, representatives of ministries, scientists, and experts discussed Bulgaria's policies in the field of space technologies, the President's press secretariat reported. Also discussed were activities for the implementation of a project to establish a National Aerospace Observation, Control and Management Centre, as envisaged in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

The project for a centre to process satellite information with a broad coverage was proposed by the head of State during the public discussion of the NRRP. The initiative was later approved by the European Commission for funding to the amount of BGN 136 million.

During Wednesday's meeting, Radev said that the project's implementation is of decisive importance for the effective work of institutions in situations that require timely receipt, processing, and analysis of information. The centre is planned to carry out 24-hour monitoring in various aspects (state of water basins, forests, soil, road infrastructure, urbanization, border security) that will be of use to the corresponding institutions, scientific circles, and citizens. That will contribute to better management of national resources and institutions' reaction, particularly in emergency situations. Radev noted. Such a project would also give a significant impetus to the development of space science in Bulgaria, will contribute to the professional realization of young Bulgarian specialists, and will provide competitive advantages to the country, he added.

Participating in the meeting were Minister of Electronic Governance Valentin Mundrov and his deputy Alexander Yolovski, Minister of Innovation and Growth Rosen Karadimov, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, the Defence Ministry, and the Space Research and Technology Institute with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
