A framework agreement on partnership, friendship, and the development of good relations was signed on Tuesday by the Deputy Mayor of the Bulgarian city of Stara Zagora, Radostin Tanev, and the President of the Provincial Council of Zagora in Morocco, Madani Cheikhi, Stara Zagora Municipality said.
The town of Zagora in the province of the same name is located in an oasis in southeastern Morocco, about 360 km from the city of Marrakesh.
An eight-member Moroccan delegation visiting Stara Zagora was welcomed by Deputy Mayors Radostin Tanev and Nadezhda Chakarova earlier in the day.
Addressing the hosts, Cheikhi said that the two countries have historically had good relations. The Zagora Provincial Council President noted that Bulgarian hydraulic engineers have been involved in the construction of canals for the improvement of their water supply system.
Cheikhi expressed his readiness to sign a partnership agreement between Zagora and Stara Zagora and invited a delegation from Stara Zagora to explore the beauty of the Moroccan region. On behalf of his municipality, Tanev accepted the invitation and said that the delegation will include business representatives and Trakia University officials.
Zagora province’s economy relies mainly on tourism, traditional agriculture (growing vegetables, herbs, and a special variety of dates), mining of minerals (cobalt and copper), and renewable energy production, said a member of the Moroccan delegation.
The local officials agreed that bilateral cooperation could involve tourism, cultural and student exchanges and establishing business contacts.
