The winners of the Askeer Award for drama in 2024 were announced on Friday at a gala hosted by the Bulgarian Army Theatre.

The winner in the category "Contemporary Bulgarian dramaturgy" is Boris Krastev for The Tower (Theatre 199).

The Askeer for leading role went to Maria Stefanova - for her role of the Lady in Pink in Oscar and the Lady in Pink by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt (directed by Stefan Spasov, Theatre 199), and Konstantin Sokolov - for Peter in The Boot by Lilo Petrov (directed by Stoyan Radev, Theatre "Stoyan Bachvarov" - Varna).

The best mono-performance was Prima Facie by Suzie Miller, starring Elena Telbis.

The Askeer for directing was given to Veselka Kuncheva for The Transfiguration by Franz Kafka (“Nikola Vaptsarov” Drama Theatre - Blagoevgrad).

The award ceremony, of which BTA is a media partner, was dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of Yordan Radichkov. The gala programme was sprinkled with excerpts from the works of the great Bulgarian writer and playwright, performed by the troupe of the Bulgarian Army Theatre.
