The Transport Ministry on Wednesday said that it has opened the bids in a direct negotiation tender for the procurement of 35 electric multiple-unit trains under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Four bids have been submitted by Tuesday’s deadline by PESA, Alstom, Škoda and Stadler Polska. A procurement commission will review the bids and hold talks with the companies.

The tender for the procurement of 35 electric multiple unit trains was opened at the beginning of the year, but two participants failed to meet the requirements. In view of the complexity due to the specificities and complexity of the project for modernization of the railway rolling stock the Transport Ministry decided to switch to a procedure of direct negotiations without prior announcement.

Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeikov said that the Ministry will invite to negotiations "a broad circle of participants so as to maximize competition" and

European Commission representatives will monitor the contracting process.
