In the first quarter of 2024, the youth unemployment rate (age group 15 - 29) was 9.3% (9.7% for men and 8.7% for women), said the National Statistical Institute on Tuesday. Compared to the same quarter of 2023, this rate increased by 2.2 percentage points, by 1.6 percentage points for men and by 2.9 percentage points for women.
The youth unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2023 was 7.1% (8.1% for men and 5.8% for women)
The unemployment rate was 5.0%, by 0.6 percentage points higher compared to the first quarter of 2023.
In the first quarter of 2024, there were 2, 907,300 employed persons, of whom 1,547,100 men and 1,360,200 women. Compared to the first quarter of 2023, the number of employed persons decreased by 0.7%, which was entirely due to a decrease among women. The employment rate for the population aged 15 years and over was 52.8%, 59.1% for men and 47.0% for women. By comparison, 2,928,000 people were employed in the like period of 2023.
In the first quarter of 2024, there were 2, 450,200 economically inactive persons (persons not in the labour force) aged 15 years and over, of whom 987,400 (40.3%) men and 1, 462,800 (59.7%) women.
