site.btaIllustration and Graphics Festival Brings Together Artists from Several Countries

Established artists from several countries will take part in the fourth Festival for Illustration and Graphics (FIG.) between June 7 and 17, organizers said. The programme features exhibition, workshops, lectures and film screenings.

Artists from Germany, Austria, Italy, North Macedonia and Bulgaria will take part in the group opening exhibition “Ambiguous Beaty” on June 7 in the Ko-Op art space. Paul Waak, Lena Weber, Noemi Vola, Gjorgji Despodov, Maria Szakats and Teodor Genov explore the ambiguous boundaries between figuration and abstraction, creating a new visual language, which reflect the complexity of the modern world. The exhibition looks into the theme of this year’s edition, which focuses on fog as a metaphor for transition.

„Traditionally the festival features a solo exhibition by a debuting artist and this year it will be Maria Ilieva. She was showcased at the last edition of ArtStart, a joint project of Credo Bonum Gallery and Goethe Institut, which presents promising artists. Living between Sofia and The Hague, Maria is a visual artist, whose practice uses drawings and texts. Her exhibition “Loose Sediments”, is created especially for FIG. and the Octopus Art Space. It will open on June 11 and will be on until June 30.

The Austrian collective Soybot will transform the abandoned space during their exhibition Sugar Whip And Bread, which will open on June 13. There will be a lecture, Talk, Type, Talk, on June 14 at Hyperspace. The panel brings together three lectures which present the work of Pavel Pavlov, Superscript2 and Lena Weber.
