site.btaBulgarians' Income Outpaces Expenditure in Q1 of 2024

In the first quarter of 2024, Bulgarians' income has grown faster than their expenditure, show figures released by the National Statistical Institute on Friday. The total income average per household member during the first three months in 2024 averaged BGN 2,840, which was an increase of 18.6%, year-on-year.

The total expenditure per household member during the same period averaged BGN 2,524 BGN, up by 17.4% from the like quarter of 2023.

At 29.8%, food and non-alcoholic beverages represented the largest proportion of total expenditure, followed by housing (17.1%), taxes and social insurance contributions (14.9%), and transport and communication (11.2%).
