The procedure for compliance certification of the voting machines for the upcoming two-in-one elections on June 9 in on schedule and is expected to be completed by May 26, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said at a working meeting with representatives of the Central Election Commission (CEC), the press service of the Council of Ministers said on Wednesday. The topic of discussion was the conduct of credible elections.

In attendance were caretaker Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Violeta Koritarova, Electronic Governance Minister Valentin Mundrov, Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov, Deputy Transport Minister Dimitar Nedyalkov, and Interior Ministry Secretary General Dimitar Kangaldzhiev.

The government will keep its continuous communication with the CEC to address all important issues, Glavchev said.

CEC Chair Kameliya Neykova stressed that preparations for the early parliamentary elections and the European elections are progressing normally. The CEC has already launched an information campaign for both elections. In the coming days, the CEC will put emphasis on explaining voters how to correctly tick the box with the number of the party, coalition or independent candidate in the paper ballots, aiming to reduce the number of invalid paper ballots, Neykova explained.

Earlier on Wednesday, Glavchev held a meeting with Transparency International Board of Directors Chair Francois Valerian and the Executive Director of Transparency International Bulgaria, Kalin Slavov, assuring them that Bulgaria’s caretaker cabinet strictly adheres to the election legislation and consistently works to ensure the conduct of fair and transparent elections.
