Bulgarian leaders and politicians have condemned the attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico after a government meeting in the town of Handlova.
"We categorically condemn the attack on Robert Fico! We wish to him a speedy recovery, strength and courage to his family," the Bulgarian government wrote on X, former Twitter, in connection with the shooting against the Slovak Prime Minister after a government meeting on Wednesday.
The Slovak news agency TASR quoted Deputy Parliament Speaker Lubos Blaha as saying that Fico has been shot. The Slovak prime minister has been taken to a hospital, reported BTA earlier on Wednesday.
Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said: "Bulgaria strongly condemns the brutal assault against Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico. Such violence threatens the stability of the democratic process in Europe and is absolutely unacceptable. We pray for the life of Robert Fico."
EU Commissioner Iliana Ivanova strongly condemned the brutal attack and wrote that political violence is incompatible with democracy and with the fundamental principles and values of the European Union.

Bulgarian Socialist Part leader Kornelia Ninova wrote: "The attack on Slovakia’s Prime Minister and my friend Robert Fico is a brutal and an absolutely unacceptable assault on the liberty and the democratic choice of the Slovak people. "
"I strongly condemn the horrific attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico," GERB leader Boyko Borissov wrote on Facebook. "Such acts of violence have no place in our society and threaten fundamental European values and lifestyles," he added, wishing Fico strength and speedy recovery.
"Slovak Chairman Robert Fico has repeatedly stated that he is against military assistance to Ukraine, against Ukraine's entry into NATO and against the escalation of the military conflict in Ukraine," Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov wrote on Facebook, asking who is interested in the death of the Slovak politician and who will be next.
“We strongly condemn the attempts, the political issues and disagreements to be addressed by the means of violence. We wish strength and courage to the family and friends of Robert Fico,” wrote Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria co-leader Kiril Petkov on X, former Twitter.
