The Interior Ministry said Monday that it is launching actions related to road safety and strengthening police control. The operation was ordered by caretaker Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov, and is part of the measures to limit road accidents.
All officers with police powers to work under the Road Traffic Act will be involved in the control. Additional police teams will be deployed in areas with a concentration of traffic accidents, junctions, intersections and main roads in the country.
The officers of the Interior Ministry will use the full range of technical means to control the speed and carry out checks for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. During the inspections, the use of seat belts, the technical condition of the cars, the availability of mandatory insurance, etc., will be monitored.
The operation is open-ended and is a continuation of the policy undertaken by the Interior Ministry for zero tolerance towards drivers who grossly violate road safety rules, the announcement reads.
