site.bta20,000-Plus illegal Cigarettes Seized at Danube Bridge 2 

Officers from the anti-drug trafficking department seized 20,200 pieces (1,010 packs) of unexcised cigarettes at the Danube Bridge 2 border crossing at Vidin-Calafat, the Customs Agency said. 

The cigarettes were found in a Turkish truck stopped for inspection, which was carrying groupage goods, mainly furniture, mattresses, sofas and sofas. In the course of a thorough customs inspection, including an X-ray scan, the hidden excise goods were detected, hidden in a cupboard wrapped in foil. The cigarettes have been seized and the driver, a Turkish citizen, has been issued with an act of violation. 

The violation was uncovered in a joint operation to counteract smuggling between the authorities of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, the Border Police General Directorate, the Customs Agency and the National Revenue Agency, the agency added. 

At the end of April, customs officers seized 61,160 pieces (3,058 boxes) of cigarettes hidden in loaves of bread. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 46,832 boxes or 936,640 pieces of smuggled cigarettes have been seized at Danube Bridge 2.
