The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) will open a national press club in Montana, Northwestern Bulgaria. BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Montana Mayor Zlatko Zhivkov signed an agreement here on Thursday, under which the municipality will provide space for a correspondents' bureau with the National Press Club in the district town.
Valchev said that on May 9, Europe Day, BTA is beginning the completion of a full correspondent network with correspondent bureaus across Bulgaria. "With the signing of this contract, the network of national press clubs in the regional cities will be fully completed. We have national press clubs in 26 regional cities, outside Sofia. This is the 27th national press club," Valchev said.
He noted that the Press Club will be hosted in a historic building in downtown Montana, which also houses the municipal radio station. He thanked Bulgarian Posts for allowing BTA to use the building, which is their property.
The opening of the Press Club is scheduled for June 24, Montana's holiday.
Zhivkov said: "I am very happy and appreciate the great efforts that Mr Valchev has made to make sure that BTA can reach every home in Bulgaria."
Valchev presented Zhivkov with a medal and postage stamp commemorating the 125th anniversary of the establishment of BTA. Zhivkov also received the book History of BTA (1898 - 2023), which has a page dedicated to his town.
