Caretaker Minister of Education and Science Prof. Galin Tzokov and Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev opened the 14th Sofia Science Festival at Sofia Tech Park on Thursday.

The event organized by the Beautiful Science Foundation will bring together more than 120 scientists from Bulgaria, Austria, Belgium, Spain, China, Portugal, Turkiye, Ukraine, Hungary, France, and the US.

Tzokov said that science can be beautiful, but more importantly, it should be accessible to children and students, whom Terziev called on to never lose their curiosity.

The Sofia Science Festival will present the latest innovations and discoveries of renowned experts in areas such as health, technology, space, science, and art. It will include meetings with scientists, exhibitions, hands-on workshops, and demonstrations. There will be a premiere screening of a Polish film, and a diverse school programme, among others.

For the first time, the Festival has its own AI-powered chatbot that will inform visitors about the programme and the participating scientists. A total of 3,500 students from Sofia, Samokov, Zlatitsa, and Pirdop are registered for the school programme, and some 6,000 people have already signed up for the events in the main festival programme.

The participating Bulgarian scientists will present a wide range of research from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, universities, and research institutes.

The Festival is open to all who share a curiosity about the achievements that drive humanity forward and influence the quality and way of life. The content is presented in accessible and understandable language to enrich perceptions of current topics in science and broaden the horizons of the lay public.

The event is held under the patronage and national partnership of the Ministry of Education and Science and is part of Sofia Municipality's calendar of cultural events.
