The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued a Yellow Alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms in Western, Central and Southeastern Bulgaria for May 8.
The rainfall quantity is expected to reach 20-35 litres per sq m. There will also be conditions for hailstorms in Western and Central Bulgaria, according to a warning map for dangerous weather on the NIMH website.
The NIMH's weekly weather forecast for the May 9-15 period says that cloudy weather will prevail on May 9 and 10. Thursday will see widespread rain, mainly in Southwest, possibly with thunder. Heavy rain is highly probable in the West. The northeasterly wind will be moderate to strong in the East, which will have less rain in fewer locations.
Yellow alerts are issued for not unusual but potentially dangerous weather phenomena. Caution is advised for practising activities exposed to meteorological risk. Avoidable risks should not be taken.
