Sofia Region Administration employees rallied in front of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday to demand a pay rise.

"We are protesting against the paltry pay and against the big gap between pay levels in some administrations and others, where monthly salaries are triple ours," Sofia Region staffer Vesela Tsvetanova told BTA. She stressed that salaries have not been adjusted for three years now, there is a deficit in the wages fund, no incentives are paid and no other perks. Nor they are paid extra for the election arrangements, which is an important task.

According to Tsvetanova, who has been holding this job for eight months, there are a lot of unfilled vacancies on the staff, a high labour turnover, and a huge workload.

The Sofia Region Administration is one of 28 regional administrations representing central government at the regional level.
