On Tuesday, the Council of Ministers, approved the establishment of the Mom and Me Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment. Following the decision, the Public Council for the establishment of the National Children's Hospital demanded in its position paper that the caretaker government provide an immediate explanation for the approval of the project, as this could potentially jeopardise the long term efforts to establish a children's hospital.
"There is no conflict between the two hospitals - one is for both children and adults and the other is only for children, " commented caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, stressing that the Health Ministry has assured him that funding for the state children's hospital has been secured.
The treatment activities at the Mom and Me hospital will be carried out in 39 medical specialties, in 30 clinics and wards, which will have a total of 413 beds. Mom and Me covers the treatment of patients mostly over the age of 18, and only one paediatric ward is planned in the structure of the hospital. This is in stark contrast to the state's intention to ensure that a National Children's Hospital is built only for persons up to the age of 18 with over 400 beds, the Ministry of Health's press office added.
The decision of the Council of Ministers set a deadline of 48 months for the company's manager to submit an application to the Minister of Health for a permit to carry out medical activities under the Medical Institutions Act.
