site.btaBulgaria Has Enormous Cultural Tourism Development Potential, Tourism Minister Says
Cultural tourism has grown on a global scale post-COVID-19, and Bulgaria has enormous potential in this respect, Bulgaria’s caretaker Tourism Minister Evtim Miloshev said on Friday. He was speaking during his visit to the city of Veliko Tarnovo (North Central Bulgaria), where he attended the Sofia Film Fest opening ceremony. Miloshev stressed that Veliko Tarnovo is at the heart of cultural tourism, adding that the Municipality has a solid vision for its development.
Miloshev discussed with Veliko Tarnovo Mayor Daniel Panov discussed programmes with joint funding from the Ministry of Tourism, municipalities, and tour operators aimed at promoting Bulgaria as a tourist destination abroad. Such programmes are already being implemented on the Black Sea coast and the goal is to introduce them in the country’s interior.
Their budget has been increased from BGN 400,000 to up to BGN 600,000, the caretaker Minister noted, adding that they are about attracting tourists’ interest in interior cultural tourism.
Miloshev also conferred with representatives of the Dr. Vasil Beron Vocational High School of Tourism and the universities in Veliko Tarnovo.
He said that the major problems of the tourism sector mostly have to do with the shortage of qualified personnel, adding that it is worth investing in elevating the status of the professions in this industry. "The fact that we need workers from third countries means that there is a problem with the people who are employed in this sector," Miloshev concluded.
