An international online reading competition for pupils attending Bulgarian Sunday schools abroad will take place on Saturday, BTA learned from Mariola Georgieva, head of the Bulgarian AzBuki School in Rome and Colleferro at the Asen and Iliya Peykovi Cultural Association in Italy, which is the event’s organizer. Eligible to participate are third- and fourth-grade pupils.
The aim of the competition is to encourage Bulgarian children abroad to read in their native language and improve their reading speed and accuracy through regular practice.
The competition will be held via Google Meet for the fourth time, under the auspices of Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Italy Todor Stoyanov, the Bulgarian Embassy in Rome, the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, Prosveta Publishing House, and the Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
The jury of the competition includes lecturers from the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia and the St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo, and a member of the Storks Society for Culture and Awareness.
The competition will be held in three rounds. The first two rounds will involve all participants reading familiar and unfamiliar texts. The best performing pupils will be admitted to the third round, where they will be reading tongue-twisters.
The top performers will receive a certificate and a prize.
