14th Sofia Science Festival to Take Place in May

The 14th edition of the Sofia Science Festival, organized by the Beautiful Science Foundation under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Science, will take place at Sofia Tech Park between May 9 and 12, the organizers reported. More than 120 Bulgarian and foreign scientists are expected to participate in the event.

Speakers from Bulgaria, Austria, Belgium, Spain, China, Portugal, Turkiye, Ukraine, Hungary, France and the US will cover topics that include health, technologies, space, science and art. The festival is open to anyone who is curious about the achievements that drive humanity forward and influence our way of life.

This year's speakers include Belgian cosmologist Thomas Hertog, who has worked with Stephen Hawking for more than two decades, French researcher Alexandre Grassart who heads a research lab at the Institut Pasteur of Lille, where his team is developing new organ-on-chip technologies for better understanding of infectious diseases.

To mark the 120th anniversary of the father of the atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Austrian professor of applied radiochemistry Georg Steinhauser will speak about the wild boar paradox that was observed after the Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1986.

Bulgarian participants in the festival will include members of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski and Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv among others.

The closing event of the festival will be dedicated to the European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN.
