The Haskovo District Court has remanded in custody a Bulgarian national wanted in Cyprus for theft, illegal property possession, prostitution, and pimping, the Court House said on Tuesday. The man, 48, was detained at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on April 18 in an attempt to enter Bulgaria from Turkiye.
The Bulgarian national is being sought by Cyprus’s Famagusta District Court with a European Arrest Warrant. The most serious of the crimes is punishable by a maximum period of 14 years of imprisonment.
According to the Court, there is a real risk that the man will abscond. He was initially found and brought to the Famagusta District Court. Then he was released on bail, but he violated the conditions of his release and absconded from the Cypriot judicial authorities.
The man’s arrest is a guarantee that he will appear before the Court in the actual proceedings for his surrender, the Court said. The ruling is appealable before the Plovdiv Appellate Court.
