May 2 will be declared a non-school day for all schools across Bulgaria, caretaker Minister of Education and Science Prof. Galin Tzokov said, as quoted by his Ministry’s press centre on Friday.

"The decision was taken after a dialogue with all stakeholders: parent organizations, school principals, and trade unions, and after analyzing data from across the country," Tzokov noted. In his words, many mayors have already issued orders declaring May 2 as a non-school day in their municipalities. There are 1,414 schools in these municipalities, with more than half a million children - over 70% of all pupils in Bulgaria.

Tzokov added that the aim of the decision is to ensure that all pupils in the country are on equal footing.
