In Sofia on April 18, Dr Charikleia Diamanti of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades will deliver a public lecture on "Aegean Pottery Production and Distribution from the End of Late Antiquity to the Dawn of the Middle Ages (c. AD 550-700)", the National Archaeological Institute with Museum, which will host the event, said on Facebook.
The lecture will present the results of research on the subject, focusing on the massive local production and distribution of amphorae and lamps in islands of the Aegean archipelagos’ commercial network between the second half of the 6th c. and the early 8th c. AD. The production and distribution of Aegean pottery will be discussed in an archaeological context and under a common historical denominator of a centralized Byzantine state and its needs, the Institute said.
Charikleia Diamanti holds a PhD from the University of Athens (2007) and since 2008 has been part of the Ephorate of Antiquity of Cyclades (a Regional Office of Greece's Ministry of Culture and Sport responsible for the territorial units of Andros, Milos, Thira, Kea - Kythnos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros and Syros).
