1964: First trans-Atlantic flight of Bulgarian civil aviation. Ilyushin Il-18 flies basketball teams of Bulgaria, France, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia from Sofia to Lima, Peru, for FIBA World Championship.

1989: Bulgarian Communist Party adopts secret decision on massive-scale assimilation of ethnic Turks by forcing them to adopt Slavic names.

1991: Grand National Assembly ratifies UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
