Bulgarian, Turkish Deputy Foreign Ministers Hold Meeting in Sofia

Political consultations between the Bulgarian and Turkish foreign ministries were held in Sofia on Tuesday, led by Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova and Deputy Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozay, the Bulgarian Ministry said on Tuesday.

The two delegations discussed a wide range of issues of a bilateral nature and reviewed the bilateral relations and the opportunities and areas for the development and deepening of dialogue in the light of the visits exchanged in recent months.

Deputy Minister Shekerletova and Deputy Minister Bozay exchanged views and comments on a wide range of issues, including the current challenges facing the South Eastern Europe region and changes in the geopolitical dynamics, security in the Black Sea, migration, energy, transport and connectivity, climate change, regional cooperation, culture and others. The European path of the Republic of Turkiye was also a topic of the consultations.

Shekerletova and her Turkish counterpart agreed that the excellent level of bilateral relations on all matters of mutual interest should continue and be maintained. The two stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries on important issues such as the fight against illegal migration, defence, energy and transport connectivity, as well as the opportunities to develop the existing potential for cooperation in the field of economy and trade. The Bulgarian side confirmed its support for the European path of the Republic of Turkiye.
