Geopolitical changes have accelerated the European Union (EU) enlargement process, but the EU enlarges when it is pushed, said Serbia's Minister of European Integration Tanja Miscevic, who participated on Monday in the EU Meets the Balkans forum in Sofia.

According to her, what is being overlooked is that there is fatigue in terms of the process, as well as in terms of reforms in the region. In her words, the internal policies of the candidate countries are largely aligned with European policies, which is a motive to speed up the process. Miscevic underlined that the negotiation process is changing and there are more and more objectives to reach its conclusion.

Europeanisation has been lost as a word in the process of integration of the Western Balkans, and this is the return to Europe, Miscevic believes.

After Bulgaria joins Schengen, Serbia will be internally surrounded by Schengen countries, but without being in Schengen, she added.
