Bulgaria has been approved to host the next plenary session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, outgoing Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov told reporters here on Friday. The session will take place in Sofia from July 26 to August 2.

The Intergovernmental Panel is the UN body for assessing the science related to climate change. When the World Climate Conference is held, all countries come together and seek agreements on global policies. The reports are based on scientific articles, publications and research from around the world and are peer-reviewed by scientists from around the world, Popov said.

The Minister reported that preparations are underway for Bulgaria's participation in this year's UN Climate Conference in Baku.
