Bessarabian Bulgarian Ivan Dimitrov from the Bolhrad district was awarded an Order for Courage, Third Class, posthumously by a decree of Ukraine's President, the Bolhrad District Military Administration said on Thursday. The distinction was conferred on his mother for Dimitrov's personal bravery in the protection of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine as well as for selfless fulfillment of the military duty.

The ceremony took place in the village of Vynohradne, where Dimitrov was born. Attending were representatives of the district and municipal administration, Vynohradne Mayor Ivan Mihaylov, relatives of Dimitrov, students, teachers, and local residents. They held a minute of silence in memory of Dimitrov.

A memorial plaque to him was recently unveiled on the facade of the Vynohradne school.

Dimitrov died on June 16, 2023 while carrying out a combat task in Donetsk region.
