Bulgaria is one of the most preferred destinations among German tourists, overtaking the United Arab Emirates and the Maldives, according to a survey by DRV Travel Trends 2024, the Bulgarian Tourism Ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.

The Ministry says that thanks to the implemented reform in the sector and the programme for advertising Bulgarian Black Sea municipalities, tour operators in Germany register a 20% increase in early bookings for the upcoming summer season. At the ITB exhibition in Berlin, following active negotiations and meetings held by Bulgaria’s Tourism Minister Zaritza Dinkova, it became clear that German travel company Der Touristik is willing to invest in Bulgaria as a family destination, the ministry’s press release further reads.

Turkiye ranks first in the DRV Travel Trends 2024 ranking. Holidays in the country are mostly booked by families. Spain ranks second and Greece - third, followed by Egypt and Portugal.
