Vice President Iliana Iotova participated in a commemorative ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews, held at the 134 School Dimcho Debelyanov - ORT School in Sofia, the President's Press Secretariat said on Thursday.
"We must strongly and firmly oppose all contemporary forms of anti-Semitism. To condemn violence. We must not get used to it. Violence breeds more violence, aggression - more aggression, division - more division," Iotova said, addressing the ceremony.
"The Bulgarian Jews were not sent to concentration camps thanks to the Bulgarian people, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, and manly statesmen. No one in Europe did it to save their Jews," the Vice President noted.
The Wall of the Bulgarian Righteous Among the Nations at the Dimcho Debelyanov School in Sofia was opened in this school in the summer of 2021 to commemorate 20 Bulgarians designated as Righteous among the Nationals by the Yad Vashem memorial.
Iotova also called for the creation of a museum in Bulgaria dedicated to the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews.
