The sailing season in Bulgaria opened on Friday with the 67th edition of the oldest Bulgarian sailing regatta, The Third of March, which will also be the state championship in the Yal 6 class, the organisers said on their website. The competition, which is held on Lake Varna, is organised by the Cherno More - Briz Sport Club and the Friends of the Sea - Varna Marine Club, together with the Bulgarian Sailing Federation and with the financial support of the Municipality of Varna.

The Yal-6 boat race has been held for nearly 60 years and is often called the "spring madness" in Lake Varna. Sailing crews from Sofia, Balchik, Varna, Kazanlak, Burgas, Vidin, Kozloduy, Shumen, Targovishte and Silistra are expected to take part in the state championship.

Up to 7 races are planned. The medal ceremony is at 4 p.m. on March 3.
