Burgas Regional Governor Plamen Yanev Tuesday received Ambassador of Georgia Otar Berdzenishvili, the press centre of the regional administration reported.

Yanev acquainted the guest with Burgas Region and pointed out that, in addition to the great coastal opportunities, the region also offers options for the implementation of industrial projects in non-coastal municipalities. Yanev described Strandzha Mountain as the main centre around which quality health tourism is developing because of the clean air and nature.

The possibility of deepening bilateral relations at the regional level was also discussed, as well as opportunities for economic cooperation, visits by business delegations from both countries, and the increase of tourist exchange both by air and by water. Yanev and Berdzenishvili agreed that the main problems in the field of tourism between the two countries are the lack of direct flights from Georgia to Bulgaria, as well as the lack of a cruise line in the Black Sea that would connect the two countries. The Ambassador suggested that Romania be included in this cruise line to make it more attractive for tourists.

The sides also outlined how the two countries can be useful to each other. Georgia can help Bulgaria with know-how in the fight against corruption, as well as the introduction of e-government, while Bulgaria can assist Georgia in preparing for its EU membership and share Bulgaria's rich experience in implementing ideas on beach tourism and the maritime industry.

At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed their willingness to work together to organize various initiatives such as lectures, exhibitions and forums, through which bilateral relations can deepen and Georgian tourists to once again recognize Bulgaria and Burgas Region as a tourist destination.

Berdzenishvili also met with Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov. They talked about the economic potential of Burgas Region and Georgia.
