Finance Minister Assen Vassilev Tuesday announced an upcoming restructuring of the revenue agencies and the appointment of new management, his Ministry said.

In coordination with Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, Vassilev appointed incumbent National Customs Agency Director General Pavel Tonev as his adviser. He will assist in the process of creating a single revenue agency. Tonev is succeeded by his deputy, Petya Bankova.

Experience shows that single revenue agencies lead to more efficient revenue administration, the Finance Ministry said, adding that such agencies have been created in the US, the UK, and EU Member States such as Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Spain, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, and Hungary.

By another order, Vassilev appointed Ilka Dimova as head of the Public Financial Inspection Agency (PFIA). The aim of the change in PFIA leadership is to streamline the Agency's work, bringing the financial inspection processes in line with best European practices, the ministry said. Ilka Dimova holds a master's degree in international economic relations and has many years of management experience in leading Bulgarian financial institutions. The outgoing PFIA head, Stefan Belchev, has been reinstated to the Finance Ministry.
