On this date in Bulgarian history:

1882: Cornerstone laid for St Alexander Nevsky Memorial Cathedral in Sofia.

1886: Peace treaty signed in Bucharest, ending Serbo-Bulgarian War of 1885.

1897: Agreement signed with Serbia on territorial status quo in Balkans and on cooperation in church and school matters in Macedonia.

1941: Bulgaria's first trolley bus service launched in Sofia.

1991: Interbank currency market set up. Fixed US dollar/lev exchange rate abolished.

1993: Archive agencies of Bulgaria and Turkey sign cooperation agreement in Sofia.

1999: Bulgaria's Parliament passes Lev Re-denomination Act, under which BGN 1,000 will exchange for BGN 1, effective July 5, 1999.

2004: National Dairy Board is set up by amendments to Animal Husbandry Act.
