Bozhidar Andreev won the European weightlifting title in Sofia with European records for all-round and snatch. That result secured him a berth in the Olympic Games in Paris. The Bulgarian triumphed in the men's 73kg category at the championships in Arena Sofia on Thursday evening with a 348kg (155 kg in the snatch and 193 kg in the clean and jerk event). After his last successful attempt at a record-setting 193 kg, he performed his iconic backflip to the thunderous applause of the fans in Arena Sofia. The Bulgarian also won gold medals in both movements.

After his triumph, he dedicated his accolades to the loved ones he lost.

The silver medal went to Muhammad Furkan Özbek of Turkiye with 336 kg (150 kg in the snatch and 186 kg in the clean and jerk). The bronze went to Latvia's Ritvars Suharevs, who finished with 331 kg (154 kg and 177 kg).

It has been the third title for Bulgaria from Arena Sofia. Before Andreev, gold medals also went to Angel Rusev (55 kg) and Gabriel Marinov (61 kg).
