Under 10% of Hotels,
Restaurants in Bansko Are Open,
No Bookings Made, Local Businesses Say

Blagoevgrad, Western Bulgaria, May 31 (BTA) - Under 10 per cent of hotels and restaurants in the Bansko mountain resort are open, and no bookings have been made at this stage, Malin Bistrin, head of the Union of the Tourist Industry in Bansko and Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association, says in an interview for BTA. In Bistrin's words, those who are working are doing so mostly in order to keep their personnel.

The Union of the Tourist Industry in Bansko comprises over 120 hotels and 200 restaurants and catering establishments.

Bistrin says he expects more establishments in Bansko to open after June 1, when the ban on the use of indoor areas is to be lifted at the Health Minister's order.

He goes on to say that at this time of the year, Bansko is always full of guests from Bulgaria and other European countries, but at this stage this year the local businesses depend exclusively on Bulgarian tourists. Hotel and restaurant owners hope that the borders will be opened and the tourists will start travelling again, Bistrin notes.

He adds that to recover, the tourist industry in Bansko relies on measures on the local and national level, as well as on tourists' interest in the resort, otherwise part of the businesses will close down.
