site.bta14 New COVID-19 Cases Bring Total to 2,513 on Sunday

Sofia, May 31 (BTA) - Fourteen new COVID-19 cases were registered in Bulgaria in the last 24 hours from a total of 606 tested individuals, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2,513, said national coronavirus task force secretary Dimo Dimov at a briefing here on Sunday morning.

The 14 new cases were reported across seven regions: Sliven - four; Sofia - three; Razgrad - two; Yambol - two; Pazardzhik - one; Blagoevgrad - one; and Vidin - one.

Ten persons have recovered. One person has died, a 64-year-old woman who also had diabetes. The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients stands at 161, of whom 17 need intensive case.

Speaking during a briefing on Saturday morning, when 14 new cases were also reported in the previous 24 hours from a total of 1,350 tested individuals, Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev of the national coronavirus task force said that the good news is one COVID-19 carrier now infects an average of 0.8 people, which means that the epidemic is losing its momentum.

"Things are going well, but we must not let our guard down," he said, stressing on the need to maintain physical distance and wear face masks.
