Polish countertenor Jakub Jozef Orlinski was called out three times for an encore after his performance in the Bulgaria hall in Sofia on Tuesday evening.

The Beauty & Words recital Orlinski and fellow Pole and close friend, pianist Michal Biel, performed baroque compositions by the masters of the genre Henry Purcell, Georg Friedrich Handel and Johann Joseph Fux, as well as songs by contemporary Polish composers Henryk Czyz (1923-2003), Mieczyslaw Karlowicz (1876-1909) and Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819-1972).

It is Orlinski's trademark to perform break dance moves during his concerts to break the stereotypes in the conventional and more static presentation of classical music. This did not happen during his first concert in Bulgaria.

Outside of the previously announced programme, the countertenor performed a work by Mieczyslaw Karlowicz. Durimng his second encore he sang another Polish song, and in the finale he performed his first recording with the international orchestra Il Pomo d'Oro.

Orlinski has six recorded albumas and  two Grammy nominations. He visited Bulgaria at the invitation of Sonia Yoncheva and her production company SY11 Events.
In June 2023, Orlinski won the Opus Klassik Singer of the Year award with his penultimate album Farewells.

Off stage, Orlinski has been an avid break dancer since he was a teenager. He has won several international dance competitions. He is also the face of several global brands and has been featured on the covers of fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle.
