site.btaSmuggling of 40,000 Cigarettes Prevented at Border with Turkiye

An attempt to smuggle 40,000 cigarettes in 2,000 packs was prevented by Bulgarian customs inspectors at the Lesovo border checkpoint (on Bulgaria's border with Turkiye) on the evening of February 4, the National Customs Agency said in a press release on Wednesday.

When the vehicle, entering the country from Turkiye, was X-rayed and searched, the undeclared cigarettes were found hidden in black plastic bags beneath the cargo of  polyvinyl chloride pipes.

The contraband tobacco products have been seized. A written statement ascertaining an administrative violation has been issued to the driver, who is a Turkish national.
