The 27th East Mediterranean International Tourism & Travel Exhibition (EMITT) opened at Istanbul's TUYAP Fair Convention and Congress Center on Tuesday. More than 600 tourism professionals from 95 countries have applied for participation in the show, which ends on February 9, its director said.

It is one of the top five tourism exhibitions worldwide for tourism and travel in the Balkans, the Middle East and Central Asia.

Trends in the sector, medical tourism, economics and destination marketing are on the agenda.

The organizers said that some 5,000 companies from nearly 95 countries, including Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Brazil, Egypt, Iran, Japan, Northern Cyprus (recognized only by Turkiye) and Venezuela, are participating on an area of 70,000 square metres.

The Bulgarian stand, featuring more than 10 leading tourism companies, is particularly impressive among the stands of the foreign participants.

Tourism Minister Zaritsa Dinkova who is visiting the show told BTA: "We have made an effort as our goal is to present Bulgaria as a year-round tourist destination. We hope to achieve an economic effect - to attract more tourists, to show Bulgaria as a country with remarkable resources for tourism and travel, SPA holidays and cultural tourism. That is why our offers include various destinations."

Along with traditional tour operators for winter and summer tourism, the Bulgarian stand features for the first time destinations such as Hisarya, Kyustendil, Veliko Tarnovo and Stara Zagora, which are less known on the Turkish market.
