The hiking conditions in the high parts of the mountains are poor on Sunday. There are low clouds, strong wind, and fog, the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) told BTA.

The wind is particularly strong in Vitosha Mountain and the Balkan Mountains. MRS warns against hiking in the high parts of the Balkan Mountains.

Hikers are advised to stick to the low and wooded parts of the mountains.

Lift facilities in most resorts are operating but will be suspended in the high mountain areas by the end of the day. The lift facilities at Vitosha Mountain are already suspended due to high winds. MRS said that the drag lift on the Seven Rila Lakes will not be working because of the strong wind and dense fog.

MRS responded to two reports of lost hikers in Vitosha Mountain and the area of the Seven Rila Lakes in the past 24 hours.

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a code yellow warning for strong winds in 14 regions of Bulgaria.
