Meetings of businessmen from the Balkan countries, the Balkan Youth Festival, the Balkan Children's Festival, performances of artists from the Balkan countries, the organization of Iftar evenings during Ramadan, student meetings - these are some of the initiatives included in the program of the Balkan cities cooperation platform, established last October on the initiative of the Edirne Regional Government.
The Anadolu Agency reported that the programme was presented in the city of Edirne at a meeting with representatives of various institutions from the Balkan countries, businesses, NGOs, as well as former MPs from Bulgaria (Kasim Dal), Kosovo (Mahir Yagcular), the Republic of North Macedonia (Kenan Hasip) and others.
In his opening remarks, Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer, the head of the platform, stressed that the aim is to intensify and make lasting the cooperation between the Balkan cities at all levels.
"Many NGOs and local authorities in the Balkans maintain relations with each other. However, projects and relationships are limited and not permanent. It is clear that strong links are possible with systematic cooperation and organization. The aim of the platform is to ensure active and permanent cooperation in relations by creating lasting and sustainable links with all cities in the Balkans. Our goal is to turn Edirne into the centre of this cooperation,” Edirne Governor was quoted as saying by the Anadolu Agency.
