There should be an urgent optimization of the transport network and its connectivity, said Transport and Communications Minister Georgi Gvozdeikov on BNT. According to him, over the years there has been a lack of a concept for connectivity in absolutely all modes of transport - rail, land, sea, air. Gvozdeikov added that rail transport should be developed as a priority from now on as it is the most environmentally friendly mode of transport at the moment. On this occasion, he explained that the delivery of nearly 70 second-hand wagons is the fastest and most effective way for the Bulgarian railways to up their game. The Minister reiterated that these are perfectly maintained wagons, which were operated until December in the German state railways. The new carriages will be put on the longer lines, but they should not be expected to run much faster than they have done so far. Gvozdeikov reminded that by the end of 2026 the planned speed of 160 km/h will be achieved, at which the trains will run in the country.
