site.bta5.1 Magnitude Earthquake Registered in Izmir
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 was registered at the Aegean Turkish region of Izmir on Saturday, the Turkish government's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said.
The earthquake was registered at 8:19 am local time (7:19 am Bulgarian time). The epicenter was in the sea near the town of Menderes at a depth of 8.5 kilometres.
The earthquake has caused panic among Turkish citizens.
Izmir Governor Suleyman Elban indicated on his account on the X social network that at this stage no data has been received about injured people and material damage.
AFAD teams have been sent to the area to conduct a field survey for possible damage.
