site.btaCabinet Approves Draft Memorandum with Turkiye on Cross-Border Airspace Security Operations

The Council of Ministers adopted a decision to approve a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Government of the Republic of Turkiye regarding cross-border airspace security operations.

Bulgaria performs tasks of carrying out duty in peacetime within the framework of the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence System /NATINAMDS/, according to NATO requirements.

Cross-border airspace security operations are conducted by duty fighters of one country in the airspace of a neighbouring country on the basis of a Memorandum of Understanding concluded between the governments of the two NATO member countries. Bulgaria has signed Memoranda of Understanding and conducts such cross-border airspace security operations with Romania and Greece.

The Memorandum between the governments of Bulgaria and Turkiye defines the rights, responsibilities, and obligations of the parties, as well as the basic principles, procedures and conditions for conducting cross-border operations to protect the airspace of the two countries.
