The development of the European defence system and green energy topped the agenda of a meeting between Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen, the government information service said on Wednesday. The two discussed aid to Ukraine, as well as increasing technological capacity to provide more security in the current geopolitical developments in the world and accelerate the production of ammunition and other components needed for the defence industry.
Denkov was assured that Denmark will continue to insist on Bulgaria's full admission to Schengen and Copenhagen will be Sofia's ally in the negotiations for the removal of land border controls. The two prime ministers also discussed Bulgaria's ambition to become part of the euro area on 1 January 2025. According to the Danish Prime Minister, the Bulgarian government took remarkable steps to this end.
During the meeting, Denkov expressed Bulgaria's interest in exploring in depth Denmark's experience in using high technologies and innovations in the energy sector.
The two government leaders discussed Denmark's experience of using wind power plants, which are a good complement to photovoltaic plants. "They have developed technologies and parks that work very efficiently," Denkov said after the meeting, noting that Denmark is one of the top countries in Europe in terms of using wind power for generation of electricity. "We talked about how some of this expertise can be used in the development of these technologies in Bulgaria," Denkov said.
The production of hydrogen from renewable sources and the development of a hydrogen economy was also in the focus of talks. Denmark was one of the first countries in Europe to develop a so-called hydrogen economy and Bulgaria also has similar plans. According to the Bulgarian Prime Minister, the region around Stara Zagora is suitable to develop such technologies.
