A man in his early thirties was arrested on Tuesday over a bomb threat emailed to the 112 emergency phone number, Interior Ministry Secretary General Zhivko Kotsev said. The email was sent on Monday evening and read that bombs will go off in all schools across Bulgaria. Kotsev noted that immediate action had been taken together with schools management, officials from the regional police directorates and the Cybercrime Department at the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.
The Interior Ministry Secretary General said that the police had conducted checks at schools across Bulgaria and no bombs had been found. He added that a man who lives in Dobrich Region (Northeastern Bulgaria) had been detained over the threat, noting that the device from which the email was sent had also been found.
Some schools in the country were closed on Tuesday following the threat, including in six municipalities in Vratsa (Northwestern Bulgaria).
